Amazon Vs Porn: A case study in audience engagement

A good way to measure engagement for a website should be to compare it against Porn websites. So, I compared Amazon (All over the world) with Pornhub & Xvideos (Highest ranked in the US and the World respectively). Of course I included Amazon.in for the indian perspective on things. Here are the highlights:

1. Worldwide, Amazon is the clear leader in “traffic” generation, so it gets a lot of hits every day, almost twice that of the porno websites. People are disgustingly addicted to online shopping and NOT PORN. So let’s clear that out right now.

2. Porn websites have managed to do what Flipkart/Myntra/Amazon etc. have been trying so hard to do which is “more traffic via mobile”. Online shopping websites get more traffic via desktop contrary to what they claim and porn websites get more traffic via mobile which they don’t claim at all (so humble).

3. People have a refined taste in porn. You ABSOLUTELY CANNOT beat the engagement rates of Xvideos as is clear from the images attached OH MY GOD look at the bounce rate being that low and avg pages at least 11. People go through 11 pages before figuring out that perfect video to watch but they can easily figure out what to buy within 9 pages.
